I personally find they don't outweigh the bonuses of the mobile version - better graphics, game balance (some items and monster hit points tweaked, males characters are more useful now for end game min/maxing), autosaving, portability, better soundtrack and most current translation. These are big features for some people and may be for you too. The monster medals in the GBC version are a VERY time consuming grind to unlock the second bonus dungeon - which is mainly just the bosses with more hit points for a challenge. Like I mentioned, the rewards from pachisi in the mobile are in the mobile game, just rolled into rewards for the mini medals you can collect, so there are no missing items.
The battle animations, the pachisi game, monster medals, and the second bonus dungeon (based on monster medals) are the main ones. Pick your style and what matters most to you and go with it, you honestly can't go wrong. All of them are great - including SNES translated and the original NES. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any version in the end. All the pachisi items and mini medals have been rolled into other places and the missing monster attack animations is not as bad as it seems too - in the GBC and SNES versions they are mostly static with minor movement when attacking and no idle animation movements like more current games. Downside is the missing content, which really is not too game changing in my opinion.
It is the most balanced in terms of game play, has the most current localization that matches all the recent official releases, easily has the best soundtrack of any version (synthesized orchestra), has an autosave feature (some say it's not reliable but it has never failed me) and graphically is similar to SNES version. There are downsides to the GBC version too - limited screen space, no backgrounds for battles (just a white screen), 8-bit sound, a separate screen for the menu, GBC style graphics where not many colors can be displayed at once.ĭon't discount the mobile version. It even has an extra bonus dungeon based on the monster medals you collect. You're probably going to have a majority claiming to go with GBC because of having the most content - which it does. All versions are awesome and unique in there own way, including original NES and the fan translated SNES.
